August 24th, 2013
On August 24, 2013 a group of nine Miatas set put from the Dunkin’ Donuts at the Wrentham Village Outlets for a wild and crazy experience at Southwick’s Zoo in Mendon, Ma. We started out on a chilly morning by heading away from the highway and civilization. We crossed into Rhode Island and crossed the Pawtucket Reservoir, where the water level seemed to be down. There we encountered a group of road runners (people kind) who were being overseen by the local constabulary. From there we squiggled up Tower Hill and back down again. Then we passed the best site for mining Bowenite, RI’s state mineral. (Another piece of trivia! ) Eventually we wandered back into Massachusetts and hovered around Silver Lake, both in Blackstone and in Bellingham. Finally, (whew!) we arrived at Southwick’s Zoo in Mendon, still a group of nine! There we had lunch, strolled the grounds, and gawked at the animals. Most people left around 3:00 to find some ice cream in Oxford (?). Luckily, I had a ticket for the Giraffe Experience, and remained for another hour. What a great day! Superb weather, good driving, and no mishaps. Hope to see you all again.
