Steak and Castle

Please join us for a scenic afternoon drive to a highly regarded steak house and a sunset walk to the ruins of a local “castle” in Groton Massachusetts.

We will meet at the Lowes in Hudson at 2:45 P.M. for a 3:00 P.M. departure.

UPDATE:
Due to difficulty getting tables at the Gibbet Hill Grill, we had to change the dinner destination. The new destination is Forge & Vine, which is about ¼ mile from Gibbet Hill. Forge & Vine features a wood-fired open kitchen, and serves a variety of dishes, including steak, poultry, lamb, pork, and seafood. Please budget $40.00-80.00 per person, excluding drinks. The atmosphere is lively, and the dress is smart casual.

Those who are interested may join us for a short drive from the restaurant to Bancroft’s Castle.  Bancroft’s Castle was built by General William Bancroft as his personal home in 1906. When he ran out of money, he sold the property, and it eventually passed into the hands of the Groton Hunt Club, which used the Castle for hunting parties, dances, dinners and outings. In 1932 a fire started by careless trespassers with fireworks destroyed most of the home leaving only the ruins of the observation tower intact. We should arrive at the Castle around sunset for some nice views of the surrounding countryside. The sunset walk / hike up to see Bancroft Castle will continue as before.
