Wilton Town Hall 2026

May 3, 2026 Sunday Drive to the Movies.

Please join us for a journey into cinema history to the Wilton Town Hall Theatre in Wilton NH.

We will meet at the Dunks in Lancaster MA, and follow a twisty back roads route to The Kettle for lunch.

The Kettle is a reasonably priced ($20-30) restaurant with an excellent eclectic menu.

After lunch, we will walk across the street to the Theatre.

The Theatre opened in 1885 as a vaudeville venue. In 1912, the theatre exhibited its first silent

film, and by the 1920s was in regular use as a cinema. The Theatre continues in operation to

this day, running a program of independent and classic films. The cinema prides itself on its

extra bright projector, comfortable seating, and freshly popped popcorn with real butter.

This Sunday the Theatre is screening the 1928 silent comedy “Steamboat Bill, Jr”. Bill Junior

(Buster Keaton) is the foppish Bostonian son of tough-as-nails Mississippi paddleboat captain

Steamboat Bill (Ernest Torrence). His budding romance with Kitty (Marion Byron) is quickly

thwarted by her father, a wealthy rival riverboat owner (Tom McGuire). Bill Junior might be a

massive disappointment to his father on a normal day, but when a literal cyclone hits, this

walking disaster just might be the only one who can save the day.

Live accompaniment to the film will be provided by traveling silent film composer / organist Jeff Rapsis.
