“Sunday Drive to the Gropius House”
Please join us on a drive and group tour of the Gropius House. Walter Gropius, founder of the German design school known as the Bauhaus, was one of the most influential architects of the twentieth century. He designed Gropius House as his family home when he came to teach architecture at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design. Modest in scale, the house was revolutionary in impact. Gropius House is a National Historic Landmark. Gropius House combined traditional elements of New England architecture—wood, brick, and fieldstone—with innovative materials including glass block, acoustical plaster, chrome banisters, and the latest technology in fixtures. It features furniture designed by Marcel Breuer and fabricated in Bauhaus workshops. With the family’s possessions still in place, Gropius House has a sense of immediacy and intimacy.
We will meet at 8:00 A.M. at Kimball’s Farm 1543 Lunenburg Rd Lancaster, MA. We will depart at 8:30 A.M. for the 1 1/4 drive to the Gropius House located in 68 Baker Bridge Rd, Lincoln MA. We’ll proceed eastward along curvy backroads that lead into Lincoln to arrive for a 1-hour long group tour of the Gropius House and walk through the surrounding grounds. Following the tour, we head out for a drive to our lunch destination at the Sterling Street Brewery located in Devens, MA.

Lunch: Sterling Street Brewery, Devens, MA ~ 12:45 PM

Trip is limited to 10 cars. I will hold two spaces for new members. The admission cost of the tour is $25.00 per person ($22.00 for Seniors 65+). Payment is due when you signup to secure your spot. RSVP by June 4th. If you need to cancel, there will be no refund after June 4th.
