On Saturday July 8, a group of 17 Miatas got together to prove that Miatas and boats do mix!
We started at the rest area on 128 in Beverly. We welcomed new members Vicky and Charlie Busky and of course checked out their car. After grabbing coffee, we proceeded on a leisurely drive through Hamilton, Ipswich and Rowley. Did anyone else notice the roof top gym in Newburyport? Thank you Jim for arranging to get the bridge reopened and the road paved prior to our trip. Miata people obviously have a lot of pull.
We boarded the Ninth Wave at 11 am and cruised out of the river by motor power. After getting to the ocean, the sails were raised. Unfortunately, or fortunately if you tend to get sea sick, there was little wind so we didn’t go too far or too fast. The weather was perfect and we did see some porpoises. A few people even took naps after eating our picnic lunches.
After returning to the parking lot, we thought about trying to get a refund on our parking fee – seems there was a concert scheduled and we had prime parking spaces. We should have gotten discounted parking anyway as we don’t fill whole spaces. Maybe a two for one deal – something to think of for the next trip.
We proceeded out of the parking lot to meander on some wonderful Miata roads including one along the Merrimac river, to Skip Hamburgers “home of New England’s best curly fries” in Merrimac. There we joined over 700 other vehicles for a cruise night car show.
We ate, checked out the other cars – none were as good as our Miatas of course, and listened to the live band.
A wonderful day filled with good people and excellent cars. Thanks Jim and Deb.
