SUMMARY:February 23\, 2025 Sunday Gilbert & Sullivan (Ruddigore) RSVP by February 19th
DESCRIPTION:Had 10 people\nSunday February 23\, 2025 concert 1:30 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.\nJoin Bob and Me for an afternoon show and dinner.\n \nTICKETS:\nTicket are now available to purchase.\n$45 true cost option\n$30 regular adult\n$25 student/seniors\n$20 supported\nTo purchase tickets: \nhttps://sudburysavoyards.org/ruddigore-2025/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR1ykCXc3An3anjQgbG4nls935ScAVtN97kLcnEZUtd-bW1LD5MNLpnbzDE_aem_wl1jxBuh_YYZhu6NOv9ayA\nSYNOPSIS\n“Ruddigore\, or The Witch’s Curse” was the 10th collaboration between Gilbert and Sullivan. The operetta is a parody of the stock melodrama — the villain who carries off the maiden; the priggishly good-mannered poor-but-virtuous-heroine; the hero in disguise\, and his faithful old retainer who dreams of their former glory days; the snake in the grass who claims to be following his heart; the wild\, mad girl; the swagger of fire-eating patriotism; ghosts coming to life to enforce a curse; and so forth. But as one critic noted\, Gilbert turns the moral absolutes of melodrama upside down: Good becomes bad\, bad becomes good\, and heroes take the easy way out. The Baronets of Ruddigore are cursed. Anyone who succeeds to the title has to commit a crime every day — or perish in inconceivable agony. Robin Oakapple\, a young farmer\, loves Rose Maybud\, but both are too shy to tell the other. But Robin has a secret. He is really Sir Ruthven Murgatroyd\, the rightful Baronet of Ruddigore\, in disguise. His younger brother\, Despard\, believing Ruthven to be dead\, has assumed the title. Robin’s foster brother\, Richard\, seeking Rose for himself\, tells Despard of Robin’s deception\, and Robin is forced to accept his true position\, losing Rose to Richard in the process. Now the Baronet of Ruddigore\, Robin is confronted by the ghosts of his ancestors who step from their picture frames in the gallery of Ruddigore Castle to confront him for failing to conscientiously commit his daily crime. Robin eventually finds a way of satisfying his ancestors demands whilst continuing to live a blameless life.\nDinner:\nEvviva Trattoria Maynard 5 Digital Way\, Maynard\, MA 01754\nIf you would like to join us for dinner after the show\, please RSVP to me before February 19\, 2025 so I can give a final head count to the restaurant.\nbgauvin@charter.net

SUMMARY:June 29\, 2024 Saturday Hawk Walk
DESCRIPTION:Hawk Walk June 29\, 2024\n\nPlease join in for a rare opportunity to take a walk with a Master Falconer\, and get to meet some birds of prey up close and personal.\n\n\n \n  \nHenry Walters is the founder of Monadnock Falconry. Trained at the Irish School of Falconry\, Walters will be our guide\, sharing his knowledge and appreciation of these hunting raptors. We will have a 90 minute session\, walking through the countryside with these majestic birds of prey. We will be able to observe the hawks hunt in the wild\, and then return to his hand (or\, potentially\, your own hand). Since we will be walking outside over open fields\, some moderate fitness is required.\n\nThe trip to Monadnock will commence at the Boxborough Regency – we will marshal from 9:30 A.M. and departing at 10:00 A.M. We will take a twisty back road drive to our brunch destination: Hilltop Cafe in Wilton. Located in a 1765 farmhouse\, Hilltop serves a rustic\, hearty menu. From there it is a short drive to the falcons. We will finish the trip with locally produced ice cream at Connolly Brothers Dairy Farms.\n \n  \nDate: 29 June 2024\nTime: Marshal 9:30 A.M. and departing at 10:00 A.M.\nStart: Boxborough Regency Hotel\nBrunch: Hilltop Cafe\nDestination: Monadnock Falconry\nHawk Walk: 14:00-15:30\nCost: $38/person for falconry\, extra for brunch +\nIce Cream: Connolly Brothers Dairy Farm\nFinish Time: 16:00\nItinerary: Google / GPX / TomTom (51 miles / 112 minutes)\n\nThe Hawk Walk is limited to 8 persons – in however many Miata’s that may be. If there are more people interested\, there is a chance we can add a second wave.\n\nTo sign up\, please fill out this brief form.
